I've recently gotten a little bit of flattering press regarding my contributions to the Wenham Museum's exhibit, Colorful Characters: Storytelling Through Comics. A recent article printed by the Salem News made a few mistakes that I wanted to clear up here, however.
First of all the article referred to me as a comic artist. I'm a humble writer who can barely draw a stick figure. I wrote The Sleeping King , but the pages on display of were penciled by Michael Odom, Inked by Phil Paicopolos and colored by Jesse Heagy. Also, The Sleeping King came in 5th in the 2008 comic book challenge, not 10th.
The article also seemed to allude that I had created A Short Look at the Long History of Comics all on my lonesome. I wish I was that talented. In this case I organized the project, wrote the script and lettered most of the pages. The artwork was provided by numerous talented artists. Since they haven't been mentioned in any of the press I'd like to take a moment to bring attention to them here.
Michael Odom: Michael is an amazingly talented artist that went above and beyond in his contributions to this project. He's also responsible for the design of the comic's narrator/ Sleeping King protagonist, Paris Endicott. Watch out for this guy, he's going places!
Max Romaine: Max has a powerful, realist style that can be deeply moving. He truly loves the medium of sequential art and appreciates comics as an art form. Keep an eye out for his work in the upcoming Faceless webcomic here at BSP.
Tyler James: I met Tyler at the last Boston Comic Con and was immediately impressed with his talent as well as his drive. Tyler mainly focuses on writing these days, but being multi-talented, he agreed to contribute a page to the project. He also has an excellent comic blog.
Alex Chong: I first saw Alex' work was when our projects competed in the 2008 CBC, and it instantly made an impression on me. When I put together the project for the Wenham Museum I was lucky enough to have Alex offer to do a page. Alex is the creator of the webcomic Graestone
Christopher Taylor: The first comic of mine that was ever accepted by another company was drawn by Christopher Taylor, and I'm sure his talent had a great deal to do with that. Christopher has a very cool style with a strong manga influence and he is a true professional.
Stephen Holcomb II: I've been working with Stephen for several months now and every page he has ever sent me has blown me away. From the first samples he sent me, to his work on my own Divis Morte and the Wenham Museum project, Stephen's work has been consistently awesome.
Stephen's pages for "A Short Look at the Long History of Comics" were inked by the able hand of Marshall Lakes.
Antonio Rodrigues: When I needed to find an artist to draw the pages focused on EC era crime and horror comics only one name came to mind: Antonio Rodrigues. I had previously worked with Antonio on a few short horror pieces and fell in love with his style. Antonio was kind enough to send me some original pages from one of our stories and I treasure them.

For immediate release:
Local comic creators to be featured in Wenham Museum exhibit
On June 9th the Wenham Museum opens up its new exhibit, Colorful Characters: storytelling through comics. In addition to a number of classic collectible comics, comic related memorabilia and other attractions, the museum will also be showcasing the work of a few local comic creators.
Original artwork from The Sleeping King, a project that Phil Paicopolos and Curtis Lawson (both of Stoneham) collaborated on for the 2008 comic book challenge, will be on display. Lawson, who owns and runs an independent comic book company called Broken Soul Press, also wrote and produced a comic book about the history of comics, specifically for the exhibit. The artwork for the comic was drawn by a number of different independent artists to show different comic styles. Large prints of the pages to that comic will be on display in the museum.
On his blog Lawson, whose work is largely directed towards more mature audiences, said that writing a comic aimed at young kids is the most challenging project he’d yet to undertake.
Other comic creators featured include Jay Piscopo, the author of The Undersea Adventures of Capt’n Eli, Paul Ryan who draws the daily comic strip The Phantom and Jarrett Krosockza, creator of the graphic novel The Lunch Lady.

Anyway, our illustrious founder and head honcho, Curtis Lawson, threw his hat in the ring with a piece he wrote, illustrated by an incredible art team. Below you can check out some of the pages. If it makes the top 50, be sure to swing by www.comicbookchallenge.com and show your support.

Hi gang, The weekly dig, a magazine about music, nightlife and the arts which is distributed all around greater Boston and the surrounding areas, just featured an article on Somerville's hub comics. Like the Somerville journal piece that was done on Hub comics, this one talks about myself and Kincaid with a great photograph showing Kincaid #2 and the Insufferanle suffolk gang logo hanging out in the lower corner. I can't thank the guys at Hub enough for sharing all their recent press with us here at BSP. http://www.weeklydig.com/department-...graphic-nature

Kincaid #2 has finally hit the shelves after a very long wait that has taught the BSP team some very hard lessons. We apologize for how late it is. Being comic fans ourselves we know how frustrating it can be when a book is late. We will do our best to do a better job meeting schedules in the future. In other news, we regret to inform you that Mariano Laclaustra will not be working on Kincaid in the forseeable future. He has moved onto greener pastures and we wish him the best of luck. Despite losing Mariano however, we promise that the integrity of the artwork on Kincaid will not be compromised in future issues.
